In a summer filled with big blockbuster escapism, a sobering documentary offers viewers a more serious look at life. Its been over a hundred years since Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle, which exposed the corruption of the American meatpacking industry. It depicted the harsh working and living conditions of the workers, and the great power of the few companies who fully controlled the industry. Its surprising to see that things really havent changed much for the better since 1906. It asks the question-How much do we really know about the food we buy and serve to our families? Filled with great interviews and some almost shocking footage, this cleverly written film exposes the flaws in our modern, highly mechanized system of food production. Food Inc. is a must see film thats not afraid to ask important questions, and is a call to action for those seeking alternatives to the industrialization of our food. It opens in limited release on June 19.
